FAU Libraries Host ‘The Greatest Crime of the War: the Armenian Genocide During World War I'
The Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University is sponsoring “The Greatest Crime of the War: Armenian Genocide During World War I,” an educational exhibition on loan from the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, from Wednesday, March 30 through Wednesday, April 27, at the Wimberly Library on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
The exhibition tells the story of the systematic murder of more than 1 to 1.5 million Armenainas by the government of Turkey that occurred in the middle of the war between 1915 and 1916 , but continued sporadically after the war until 1923. It explores the history of the genocide, the conditions that led to it and its legacy.
The exhibition is being hosted by FAU Libraries and can be viewed during library hours, which are available by calling 561-297-3770 or at www.library.fau.edu/geninfo/hours.htm.
Docent-led tours, which are free to the public, are available for groups of 10 to 15 people on Wednesdays April 6, 13 and 20. Tours are by reservation only, and reservations can be made by calling 561-297-2929. A public forum with the exhibition's curator will be Monday, April 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library.
Parking passes and directions to the library can be requested at the information booth at the FAU main entrance at Glades Road. Metered parking may be available in front of the library.



“Book Arts 101: Love It” Workshop at FAU’s Jaffe Center at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre and Grounds  [Eventful Event Link]

The Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center at Florida Atlantic University Libraries is offering two book arts workshops with John Cutrone on Tuesday, February 8, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, February 12, from 2 to 5:30 p.m.at the Florida Atlantic University Wimberly Library, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton. The workshop will be led by book artist John Cutrone, the Jaffe center's director. All levels are invited and print experience is not necessary.
The workshops will include a 25-minute screening of a DVD on the center's collection of artists' books, a viewing of the books and Valentine stories. Participants will also use the center's letterpress studio and historic wood type collection to print paper from type set by hand. They will make a book, bind it by hand and use the wood type sheets as book covers.
Tuition is by open donation to the center's education fund.
Cutrone graduated from the University of Alabama with a Master of Fine Arts, and is a partner in Lake Worth's Convivio Bookworks, a book arts studio that specializes in limited edition letterpress printed books and broadsides.
